Public Service

This page lists helpful information regarding RACES, ARES©, and Public Service Event communications. This information should answer a number of questions that may arise in emergency or public service communications and help you to prerare for the unexpected incident, planned exercise or your next event. As always, comments and suggestions are welcome.

Thank you to John Galvin-N5TIM for his years of work on this information and the Amateur Radio Resource Function material.

Resource Type Information

Resource Types for Amateur Radio Communicators is now known as Communications Resource Function or CRF. The change was due to the NIMS definition of Type, referring to it as the capability of a resource. The CRF definitions can be used to quickly indicate your communications capability, based upon equipment and your ability, upon signing in at a public service event or incident/exercise staging area.
